Sporting AZ FC II to Host University of Victoria and Canadian Legend Wilson

By Sporting AZ FC Communications, 02/13/18, 9:00AM MST

Sporting AZ FC II will face the University of Victoria (Canada) in an exhibition this afternoon at Quail Run Park, but just as exciting for the club’s young players will be the encounter with a North American soccer icon.

Bruce Wilson, legendary Canadian defender and captain of the Les Rouges at the 1986 World Cup, is in his 30th year as head coach of the Victoria Vikes, and he’ll lead them in Mesa today.

In addition to his 57 caps for Canada, Wilson tallied the second-most appearances of any player in the original North American Soccer League. Only Canada teammate Bob Lenarduzzi played in more matches.

For his career accomplishments, Wilson was named to the U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame in 2003 and the All-Time Canada XI in 2012.

Come out and see Sporting AZ FC II and the University of Victoria Vikes at 4:00pm at Quail Run Park in Mesa.
