Sporting AZ FC announced today it has signed forward Alejandro Aguilar for the 2018 UPSL season. The 27-year-old Costa Rican joined the club in mid-2017 for 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup qualifying.
Sporting general manager Tim Marchisotto said, "In Alejandro you have a player whose soccer resume is virtually unheard of at this level. The experience and maturity that he brings to the squad, along with his presence in the final third, are really going to give us an edge.”
Aguilar has spent most of his career with Costa Rican giants and perennial Concacaf Champions League power, LD Alajuelense. During a loan spell with in-stadium rivals Carmelita in 2012 and 2013 - during which time he notched 10 goals in 20 matches - Aguilar earned a cap with Los Ticos, the Costa Rica national team.
In 2016 Aguilar made the move stateside to sign with Pittsburgh Riverhounds (USL), and later joined FC Arizona (NPSL).
